FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

THE CHILDREN’S MUSEUM TUCSON, SONORAN GLASS SCHOOL AND TUCSON MUSEUM OF ART WILL HOST “ARTIVITY!”– A NEW DOWNTOWN EVENT FEATURING A DAY OF CREATIVE ACTIVITIES

TUCSON, Ariz. (July 27, 2015) – Three downtown Tucson non-profits have created a new open house event for Tucsonans to explore a variety of creative activities. Projects range from toy robot building to kinetic sculptures and glass-blown art.

The ARTivity! open house is on Saturday August 15, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Sonoran Glass School on 633 W. 18th Street. The entry fee is $5. Kids 12 and under are free.

The event features free activities and demonstrations as well as special activities at an additional cost ($2 – $20). Proceeds benefit the Tucson Museum of Art (TMA), Children’s Museum Tucson (CMT) and Sonoran Glass School (SGS). All projects are take-home projects.

Food trucks, including Road Running Wood Fired Pizza, will be on site. Activities will be indoors and outdoors. There will be torchworking demonstrations in the SGS Flame Shop, including how to make fishes, marbles and other objects out of solid rods of glass. The new Mobile Hot Shop Unit—a furnace glassblowing studio on wheels—will be making its second public appearance and hosting glass-blown flower experiences.

Representatives from the TMA, CMT, and SGS developed the open house event to showcase examples of creative activities locals and visitors can enjoy year-round in downtown Tucson.

“It’s always fun working with other arts organizations,” said Morgan Wells, Curator of Education at the Tucson Museum of Art. “And this event is an exciting new opportunity to come together and make art with the community.”
