Introduction to Functional Glass:
This class will focus on using tubing to create functional work such as the Onie and the Spoon. We will also explore different color techniques such as rap-n-rake and This class is for the beginning boro worker who wants to learn the craft of flame working. Or for a previous student who want more time at the torch with more instruction.
This class is 7 hours long with a half hour break for lunch.
In this class you will learn how to make prep work, blow bubbles, attach blow pipes (straight seal), blow out holes and push bowls.
You will also learn how to make and using punties (cold seals) and hot seals. If time allows we will begin to explore color. External frit applications and wrap-n-rake.
You must have some experience at the torch or approval from the instructor.
Material expenses are not included in the class price. Material fee is 30.00 for this class.
What to Wear:
Cotton or natural material tops and pants. Long pants are preferred. Close toe shoes. Hair pulled back. We have all of the tools you will need to start your journey with flame worked glass beads.
After your first class you are welcome to sign up for practice time during our discounted open studio times on Wednesdays from 5PM-9PM and Thursdays from 12PM-4PM.
Class is subject to cancellation if minimum number of students is not met.
