This course is a thorough introduction to the fundamentals of furnace glassblowing. No experience is required. We start from the very beginning with an overview of the equipment, shop movement, shop safety, and shop etiquette. Students learn the properties of hot glass, how to gather out of the 2,000 degree furnace and how to blow bubbles into the hot glass. Students also learn how to be a good partner/assistant, an integral skill to working successfully in the Hot Shop.

By the end of class, students will have made 2 to 3 small pieces and gained a new appreciation for the excited techniques needed to work with hot glass. This class is a prerequisite for all Novice Series classes.

Color is not included but available for purchase.
