Creative Aging Program

Learning about art shouldn’t stop at 60 and our Creative Aging Program seeks to solve that problem. This program supports educational events, lectures, workshops, and off-site activities for seniors within the Tucson community. Glass art classes provide an opportunity to learn a new skill, provide a mentally stimulating creative outlet, and create a welcoming environment to reflect on our lives through art making and socialization.

Individual classes provide learning experiences based on the project selected. A knowledgeable instructor will walk you through the tools, materials, and process of making fused glass art. Available at your location or on site at SGS, dependent on the number of participants.

Multi-session classes or a full 8 week curriculum provides students with in-depth, sequential skill based learning about the art of fused glass. These classes are limited to a smaller number of people, but promotes socialization and community building within the participants. Ideal for senior living facilities, community art programs, or other groups that can meet regularly.

Another popular option is a tour of SGS coupled with a make-your-own experience. This is perfect for small groups that want to spend a day exploring glass art.

Want to schedule an experience for your group? Contact our Director of Education + Outreach, Marica Whittemore at [email protected]. Please include information about your group, your budget, and what you would like to have scheduled. Some grant funding is available upon request.

This collaborative artwork was created by the participants of an eight week Sonoran Glass School class at the Hacienda at the Canyon from April 30th to June 18th, 2021. After a tour of the school, the participants designed a glass vessel that the Glass School produced, choosing the shape, colors, and patterning of the vessel.

The Catalyzing Creative Aging seed grant was provided by the National Guild for Community Arts Education and made possible, in part, by generous support from Aroha Philanthropies and the NAMM Foundation. The Catalyzing Creative Aging Program is presented by the National Guild for Community Arts Education in partnership with Lifetime Arts, and includes group training, one-on-one coaching, and funding. We would like to thank Watermark Properties for additional support.
