Sonoran Glass School’s Fourth of July Party

SGS invites you to celebrate the United States of America’s 240th birthday with BBQ, Beer, Glass Art Demonstrations, activities, and a short lecture on U.S. Glass. 

  • Watch exciting glassblowing demos
  • Create glass art projects in our studios
  • Enjoy food from Brushfire BBQ (extra fee)
  • Grab a seat and watch the fireworks

Note: make your own activities and food not included in admission.

Sonoran Glass School is a Tucson-based 501(c) 3 non-profit organization and the premier center for glass art education, experiences, and events in the desert southwest.

Schedule

Make Your Own Glass Art (6PM) – Spark your creative fire with an array of activities in multiple studios, from star-spangled paperweights to frit magnets and firework suncatchers-all made out of glass.

From Factory to Studio (7:30 PM) – Learn why glass was one of America’s first industries and how the material went from a factory-made utility to a studio art form.

“A” Mountain Fireworks (9:15 PM) – Grab a seat and watch the show with musical accompaniment on the SGS sound system. Located less than a mile from the mountain’s peak, SGS has a great view.
Brushfire BBQ (All Evening, first-come, first served) – In case you get hungry we’re serving up big ol’ plates of Brushfire BBQ for $10. Choose your main: Pulled Pork or BBQ Roasted Chicken And any two of the following sides: Garden Salad, Sweet Potatoes, Mac and Cheese, or Grilled Corn on the Cob.

As the sun sets we’ll roll out the new Mobile Hot Shop Unit, a glassblowing studio on wheels, to serve as the backdrop for an educational and entertaining demonstration featuring live glass crafting and a lecture on glass in the United States. 

*Special Make Your Own Glass Art Experiences

Try out our special, Independence-Day themed experiences offered only for this event. These Make Your Owns will be going on in all studios throughout the evening for ages 5 and up.

Star Spangled Paperweignts Fourth of July 2015 (3)*The Star Spangled Paperweight Experience allows attendees to try out our new Mobile Hot Shop Unit firsthand. Choose from a variety of colors, including Red, White, and/or Blue. Our glassblowing artist instructor will be there every step of the way to guide patrons through the process. Paperweights are $25 each, or 2 for $40.

Fourth of July Cup _Sonoran Glass SchoolAlso in the Mobile Hot Shop is our Make Your Own Glass Tumbler Experience for $55.

Fourth of July Sun Catcher Sonoran Glass SchooIndoors we’re offering a make your own Fireworks Souvenir Sun Catcher where you can make Sun Catchers with a firework design using stringer glass paint. These are $15, or two for $25.

Proceeds from this event support Sonoran Glass School, its programs, and mission to inspire people of all ages to discover the wonder of glass as a visual arts medium.
