Sculptural Dialect: Building a Visual Vocabulary with Kimberly Thomas

What message does your work convey? How does it translate? This workshop treats narrative as a matter of vocabulary — sculptural form built into a vernacular capable of carrying a story. Through demonstration, students will see how vocabulary decisions take shape in the artist’s own work, then build their own sculptural dialect in turn: developing fundamental flameworking techniques into more complex constructions, deepening their material fluency in borosilicate glass, and using each new skill as another word in their vocabulary for telling a story through form. Intuition, experimentation, and innovation are encouraged throughout, with instruction emphasizing craftsmanship and the growth of each student’s creative voice.
